Obesity and mortality - Being moderately obese reduces lifespan by 2-4 years
fatnews.com Hi, this is Larry Hobbs @ FatNews.com. LarryHobbs@fatnews.com Being moderately obese with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 35, is estimated to reduce lifespan by 2 to 4 years. Hi, this is Larry Hobbs @ FatNews.com This is equal to someone 5-feet tall being 25-50 lbs overweight... Or someone 6-feet tall being 35-75 lbs overweight. This is compared to those with a BMI of 22.5 to 25, which had the lowest risk of death during the 10-15 years of follow-up. This according to a study by Epidemiologist Dr. Gary Whitlock of Oxford University published on-line in The Lancet on March 18, 2009. The study analyzed data from 57 long-term studies which included roughly 900000 people who were followed for 10-15 years. This is the fifth video highlight from this paper. I will post other highlights. REFERENCE Whitlock G, Lewington S, Sherliker P, Clarke R, Emberson J, Halsey J, Qizilbash N, Collins R, Peto R.
