It's definitely a huge addiction, but I think we do have more important things to worry about at the moment. Obesity is a very big issue because it concerns the physical health of people. Internet addiction definitely leads to withdrawal from face-to-face and voice-to-voice interactions, and these interactions are becoming more obsolete everyday. Everyone texts and emails now. There is becoming little need to actually see each other in person.

Well, since I don't smoke, don't "do" drugs, drink very little to no alcohol and, while I love food, don't eat to excess, binge or purge, I'd have to say that next to caffeine, the internet is probably my main addiction.
And I spend a heckuva lot more time on the internet than I do drinking coffee.
I don't live in the U.S. so I have no idea of the extent of the problem there.

It is addicting. I'm addicted to YA alone. I think it has hinder us to some degree. We don't have to face "reality". There are so many things available online, it's easy to become addicted to the internet. You don't have to leave your house for anything.. You can take care of your banking needs, shopping, you can even talk to friends and family online.
