Who is opposed to laws against child obesity?

Who is opposed to laws against child obesity?I am writing a paper and a question I need to answer is who is opposed to creating laws to prevent childhood obesity... Such as soda tax, school nutrition changing and physical education being mandatory in school. Its hard to believe anyone would be against bills passing to help live a healthier life but my teacher says their are plenty of groups such as companies that sell junk food or people who would take a financial loss from these new laws. Can anyone help me with more information about these opposed people/groups?

People shouldn't be told how to live their lives. They definitely shouldn't be forced. Also the manufacturers of the "junk food" could suffer financial problems from soda tax. I've always loved being healthy, but some people enjoy their lives differently. People should be allowed to buy the foods they want for their kids if they have the money to do so.

Since the laws you mention will have little to no effect on actual obesity, but rather taxing the average American with new taxation, I would say I am opposed to the laws. The government is not actually interested in our well being, the only thing that will actually assist in healthier eating habits would be the reduction in the price of healthy foods, which will not happen, or the teaching of healthier eating habits. You cannot legislate healthy eating habits, it is that simple. There is nothing preventing schools from developing healthier menus or from enforcing physical education, other than all the regulations already controlling the costs of these actions. We do not need new laws, we need better habits in the homes, and affordable healthy foods instead of low cost junk foods. Look at your schools, a bunch of fried foods and other garbage the schools feed the kids.

Anecdotal Evidence is Not Evidence
Libertarians. Extreme right or left wing groups. I don't mean to make it sound crazy to be against these things, those are just groups that will be reliably against the measures.

Like you said; McDonald's tends to fight quietly, along with Pepsi and Coke.

For the record, the school nutrition act tends to pass without much opposition outside of people complaining about cost. There's a hefty cost associated with it.

To your disbelief; I think what you have to ask yourself is how much control do you want government to have over your life? When you're young, I think it's easy to look at something and say, hey, that seems reasonable. OK, so where do you draw the line? Just taxes? How about fines based on your BMI every year? A drill sergeant to come around forcing exercise? I'm being facetious, but the point's the same. Anytime you give up a privacy right, you are opening the door to giving more. When you get older, you kind of understand the difference between what you think and what the government should be enforcing. Well, some people never do, so maybe you won't.
