How do I help a low functioning morbidly obese adult?I have a relative that is morbidly obese and lives in a garbage filled mice infested trailer. He has weeping sores and lost his job because of the way he smells. We would like to help him, but don't know how. We are trying to respect him as an adult. Any ideas?

What a sad situation. :( Poor guy!

If he's unable to care for himself, you can always try Adult Protective Services. You can reach them by calling the Social Services office in your county.

It sounds like his obesity may be affecting his ability to live right? (Is that why he smells?) If that's the case, he might demand a lot of help to keep him healthy. Are there relatives who are willing to help him get back on his feet? If so, tell him what kind of help you can provide and offer it.

Otherwise, if his condition requires care that you don't think you can provide, Social Services might be able to give you some ideas on what to do.
