why does it matter if Americans are overweight and suffering from obesity? why is this question in this section and not in health?

I heard a few weeks ago that African-American women, statistically, have the highest incidence of obesity in the US. It was a radio news report. I have no idea who conducted the study, though they clearly weren't aware of the women in my family who could've easily changed the outcome in favor of caucasian women!
