I learned recently that excess weight is not always thanks to excess body fat, a great deal of unwanted weight is simply lying around in the colon. I used a new supplement that is taking the country by storm, it rinses out the colon. I don't understand how it works however I understand that I shed seventeen lbs and five inches from my waistline! I think you just answered your own question: muscular people always have 'bad' BMIs because muscle weighs more than fat.

Can still be a useful tool for someone just getting into fitness...

not all the time, my professor said it doesnt work if you have a lot of muscle, hence, a body builder would be considered obese if they were to use the bmi theory. bmi depends on your weight and height, and muscle ways more than fat.

As a personal trainer, I have a private loathing for the Body Mass Index, as it is completely inaccurate for those with high musculature quotient (a.k.a lean people), such as Russel and Favre.

In obese and overweight individuals, however, it may be the most reliable method of determining an unhealthy weight.

bmi is only useful when covering a large population of people. the best what is to use hydrostatic weighing, or to use the skin fold method. the bod pod is also a good way to measure body composition
