I personally think genetics plays a huge role in obesity from watching people I know try everything they can to lose weight to no avail. I also think the fact that our foods are prepared and ready to go has a part in it because we no longer have to hunt, gather, can all day, carry our cans of food to storage, thus causing to eat more knowing that we will not starve in the winter, this lowered daily activity level with our increased eating habits most likley plays a role in our weight gain.

its a mixture of it being our own fault and the governments wanting to make us and keep us fat, A fit person isn't a profit to the healthcare officials, and no profit in that field means no more extra cash for the politicians with their hands in the cookie jar(stock market).

The Genome Project is not finished yet; therefore, there is no definitive answer en re genetics. It might be that there is a tendency to become obese. But that might be because a given family only provides children with an unhealthy diet. Therefore, at a young age, the child builds fat cells. Another theory is the hormones in dairy products due to cattle needing them to become larger, plus, dilemma of adding antibiotics for medication as cows udders' become infected. I will let you research that. There is no disease nor virus. Certain medications add weight. You can search particular medications and side effects, such as the pill and anti psychotic medications. If I had to guess, I would say it has to do with family experiences, celebrating holidays with food, celebrating sports with snacks and alcoholic beverages. It has to do with advertising and false information from the government, either inadvertently or due to pressure from lobbyists. If this is for a research project, it is a broad topic. I think I have given you grist for the mill. Narrow it down to one aspect, and you will be able to write a good paper, like advertising, feasting as a way of life, culture, genetically altered foods, etc. As far as it being the control of adults, that's easy. Who moves the hand from the eating tool to the plate then to the mouth for chewing and swallowing? Who cooks? Who buys? Maybe, children don't have a choice. Adults do.

Um, eating is like sex. For a little guy I could eat for hours. Being Irish I get that blurb around my belly button. Real turn off for the ladies? Just stop eating for a bit.
