No. Too many preservatives in the food is the reason.

Obesity is caused by several factors. Here are some examples for you.
1. Fast foods are now readily available so people just eat the wrong thing and too much of it.
2. Advertising triggers the appetite when they show desirable foods.
3. A study was done by a doctor not too long ago which showed that the brain produces more endorphins when shown certain types of foods. Like if you are shown a picture of deserts the dopamine levels in your brain (which is the chemical that gives you pleasure) goes up. However if a person is shown a picture of green beans the same reaction does not occur. So we are predisposed to crave unhealthy foods.
4. In our society more often than not the family unit has two parents working, or a single parent, or some type of unconventional structure. This gives parents very little time to cook an old fashioned meal which by nature would be more healthy. Therefore, fast foods like pizza, fried chicken, Mc Donald's etc. makes it easy to feed the family. Good food takes a back seat to time constrains.
5. Emotional eating is at epidemic proportions. If someone is depressed they reach for a gallon of ice cream or shove down way more food than their body requires.
6. The advent of video games, TV, and sedentary activites keeps people from getting off their couches and exercising or playing outside.
7. Self control is dying. People are always reaching for a quick fix. Eating is no different.
Hope this helps. Have fun with the topic. Just remember that we all have free will and advertising may play a part in obesity but ultimately it is up to each one of us to decide how healthy we want to be.

You can blame advertising, restaurants selling unhealthy foods, people eating out too often and not really knowing what they are eating, and too much time spent sitting and not exercising. There are many societal problems here, and advertising is only part of the problem.
